Hello there, my name is Denise Duffield-Thomas. I was born and raised in Australia and grew up in a small beach town.
Throughout my teenage years, I trained as a dancer and briefly performed professionally as a children's entertainer with brands such as the Looney Tunes characters, Rug Rats, The Simpsons and was part of the official mascots team for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
Throughout my dance training, even though I was exercising all the time, I always struggled with my weight and so never seriously thought I could pursue dance as a career. I thought I was eating healthily, but looking back, I was preparing for failure.
After doing Business Studies at Macquarie University in Sydney, I moved to London to be head event manager for the international organisation, AIESEC's 50th Anniversary celebrations.
Have you heard about the "Heathrow injection"? It's the weight you gain almost immediately when you move to London. I was eating a lot of McDonalds, pasta and me and my flatmates made a big tradtional Sunday roast every weekend with big helpings of meat, gravy, roast potatoes and ALWAYS dessert. I was having so much fun, but I wasn't doing much exercise!
Professionally, I was working for organisations that focused on personal development and learning, but I sometimes struggled within the big organisations I worked in. I knew I wanted to work for myself, and I wanted to do something that helped people live the lives they wanted, and help the planet at the same time.
2008 was the year that changed my life. I found raw food through a friend and immediately knew this was what I was looking for. It awoke an energy in me that I thought was gone forever. I quit a career that no longer served me... and got ENGAGED. It was a year of intense personal development and mentoring. When I set my yearly goal, I said to myself - THIS is the year to finally have the body of my dreams.
And I had a great excuse. It included a wedding dress and all my friends and family staring at me as I walked down an aisle!
Early in 2009, I quit my full time job to work on my business ideas. I knew that spreading the message about raw food could set people all around the world free from the tyranny of diets that don't work. I knew it worked for me.
So I created Raw Brides, so other women could use their wedding as the excuse they need to finally give themselves the love they deserve. You can connect with me via Facebook, Twitter, read my articles, or drop me a line to say hi at denise@rawbrides.com
I live in London with my husband Mark and our two rescue cats Leo and Bruno.
