If you don't like exercise, or you have a lot of weight to lose, then walking may be for you! No gym membership required (let's face it, all your money is going towards the wedding anyway!)
It's very easy, doesn't take too much fancy equipment, and the benefits stack up. It's also very low impact, so you just need some decent walking or running shoes and somewhere to walk.
The easiest ways to incorporate a good walk is:
1. With a group of friends, so you can natter as you walk. It's a great way to see your friends and get fit together. Rope in your bridesmaids and you can chat about the wedding too.
2. In beautiful surroundings, so you can think and daydream as you walk. It doubles up as "me time". Being in nature can also help you with your stress levels too (handy when you get close to the wedding). It's an easy way to blow off wedding stress, so if the in-laws are getting you down, go for a good long walk. If you live near a beach, then the water and waves will give you extra good feelings and the resistance of the sand is great for your calves and thighs.
3. Listening to some awesome music as you walk will get you really pumped, quicken your pace (and therefore your heart rate), and motivate you to keep going. You can also multi-task here by listening to some motivational CDs, subliminal learning self-hypnosis, learn a language (handy if you're going on a foreign honeymoon) or test out your wedding play-list.
You can even invest in a cheap pedometre, which measures how many steps you do each day. Experts say you should aim for 10,000 steps a day, which sounds like a lot, but it's really only taking the stairs instead of the lift, or doing a walk around a park once a day. It's motivating to see those steps add up, but if you think that will spark off obsessive compulsion then forget counting and just enjoy walking for the sake of it!
It's also a great thing to do with your fiancé. You can talk about the wedding, and get fit at the same time. If you've got a dog - (I envy you) - then even better! Your dog will appreciate you and you'll get all those happy endorphins to deal with any pre-wedding jitters!
Goal: Find a walking buddy. Your fiancé, bridesmaids, friends or even a local walking group
Have fun, walk away your worries (and those extra pounds)!
